"If you're looking for a fun, thrilling read, look no further. The Bang-Bang Sisters is a rip-roaring delight of a novel – pulpy, fast-paced, and absolutely unputdownable." – New York Times bestselling author Roxane Gay

From critically acclaimed author Rio Youers, an action-packed crime novel featuring three kick-ass heroines—bandmates who moonlight as vigilantes.

Blood. Bullets. Rock and roll.

Meet the Bang-Bang Sisters: Brea, Jessie, and Flo. Together, they're a killer rock band with an unbreakable bond.

But that's only half the story. Offstage, they're highly skilled vigilantes, traveling the country in their beaten-up tour van to exact justice on criminals who have slipped through the system. Part rock stars, part assassins, they're a force to be reckoned with.

Drawn by a tantalizing lead, the sisters head to Reedsville, Alabama—a city crawling with destitution and corruption—where they close in on a notorious serial killer known as "the wren." But they soon discover that they have walked straight into a trap set by Chance Kotter, a ruthless mobster with a personal vendetta.

Bruised and beaten, the sisters find themselves at the mercy of Chance and a sadistic game of survival that will pit them against each other: Forty-eight hours. One city. Three sisters. Only one of them can survive.

Full of gripping action and shocking twists that come at a breakneck pace, The Bang-Bang Sisters is a relentless, edge-of-your-seat thrill ride that will leave you breathless.

Bandmates Jessie Steen, Brea Steen, and Flo Bello, the protagonists of this turbo-charged outing from Youers (No Second Chances), play bars and clubs across America while secretly working as assassins for Trace, an underground hacker network dedicated to tracking down criminals who’ve slipped through the cracks of the justice system. When a routine assignment takes the Bang-Bang Sisters to Reedsville, Ala., to deal with a serial killer, they unwittingly walk into a trap. The women’s target is nowhere to be found; instead, they’re abducted by thugs working for crooked politician Chance Kotter, who holds a grudge against the trio for killing his nephew. Turns out Chance has constructed a sadistic game of revenge: Jessie, Brea, and Flo will be released in separate parts of Reedsville and tasked with assassinating each other. If anyone refuses to participate, Chance will murder a member of her family. As the game gets underway and the bandmates fight to stay alive, signs emerge that they might be involved in a larger plot than any of them realize. Youers sketches three distinct, well-rounded heroines and gets a lot of mileage from their impossible situation. The finale drags on too long, but for the most part, this is a high-octane good time. Readers seeking fast action and strong female characters should check it out. Agent: Howard Morahim, Howard Morahim Literary.

Sisters Jessie and Brea, and bandmate Flo, all portrayed by narrator Kristen Sieh, are tight as a cover band and even more so as a crew of vigilante hit women with verve and style. Youers writes action scenes like a house afire, but the real enjoyment of this audiobook is the women's sisterhood, which is depicted with love and affection. A serial killer called The Wren pops up on the sisters' radar, and they're determined to stop them. Sieh pours on the tension and grit. When the women fall into a fiendish trap, they must band together to survive. There's blood, gore, violence, and humor in this fun pulpy crime novel. R.O. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine

Youers's (Lola on Fire) fast-paced, action-packed crime thriller features a trio of resilient and complex heroines--Jessie, Brea, and Flo--who balance life as a rock band touring dive bars with their secret identities as vigilante assassins. The women, each driven by personal loss and a desire for justice, work with hackers to hunt down those who evade the law, meting out their own brand of vengeance on criminals like rapists, traffickers, and murderers. Their latest mission leads them to Reedsville, AL, in pursuit of a serial killer known as the Wren. However, the town is also home to Chance Kotter, a powerful mobster with his own vendetta against Jessie, Brea, and Flo, setting up a deadly game where their friendship is tested. Narrator Kristen Sieh expertly voices the large cast of characters, giving Jessie, Brea, and Flo distinct voices and the men convincing Southern accents while imbuing the Wren with appropriate creepiness. Leaving room for a potential sequel, Youers uses memorable characters in a John Wick-like narrative that ends with a violent yet satisfying resolution. VERDICT Recommend to fans of high-octane thrillers and strong women protagonists.--Sarah Hill
