A classic example of a hammer in search of a nail, nutritionist Alpert and dermatologist Farris’s diet program is a haphazard blend of science and common sense that would have benefitted from more thorough editing. Assuming readers are already onboard, the authors begin with dietary guidelines and meal plans for the “3-Day Sugar Fix” and beautifying tips for the “3-Day Skin Fix” before readers are even told what they’re buying into. Mercifully, the two then work their way through various chapters regarding what to eat and drink (vegetables, green tea, etc.), what to avoid (white flour, soda), and which skin products to use, in addition to basic exercise tips and a list of items to eat or avoid when dining out. They close with a handful of recipes and meal plans. Numerous accolades from the authors’ patients and customers speak to the efficacy and life-changing aspects of the program. Readers will likely be disappointed by what amounts to a print infomercial. Agent: Dan Mandel, Sanford J. Greenburger Associates.
