Aronne (director, Comprehensive Weight Control Program, New York-Presbyterian Hosp./Weill Cornell Medical Ctr.; "Weigh Less, Live Longer") and Bowman (coauthor, "The 90-Second Fitness Solution") focus on the biological and physiological cues and switches that react on a genetic level to prohibit weight loss. Aronne describes a low-glycemic plan of eating in order to help adjust the patient's "fullness gauge," thus helping the body to move toward releasing its excess weight. He offers makeover tips for breakfasts, lunches, snacks, dinners, beverages, and exercise. Tables of the glycemic levels of popular foods and a chapter of recipes help readers apply the concepts of the food plan more effectively. In a feature that's unique to this book, Aronne also discusses drugs, weight-loss surgery, and other techniques for those who cannot lose weight even when successfully following this plan. Aronne's encouraging, medically based text will be popular with individuals seeking weight-loss techniques for stubborn extra weight.
