      Popular Bible teacher Arthur, cofounder of Precept Ministries, traces the idea of God's covenant from the Old and New Testaments to its meaning for people in the 20th century. She begins by reflecting on the first sign of God's covenant with humankind in the story of Noah and the flood. She then explores the ramifications of the covenant relationship between David and Jonathan, before focusing her attention on Jesus Christ as the mediator of the New Covenant. She notes, "A covenant relationship supersedes all other relationships. If you are in covenant with Jesus Christ, you are in covenant with One who is God." Using anecdotes from her own ministry experiences as well as a deep reading of Scriptures, Arthur explains the seriousness of making a covenant, especially in an age she sees as marked by casual commitments and broken promises. While readers will benefit from the depth of her study, her saccharine and manipulative style will put off many readers. For example, Arthur notes, "Beloved Christ laid down his life for you... His potential covenant partner, and you are to do the same."
