Oh, young love. Our hero must leave England following a duel, the true reason for which he is unable to supply to his 17-year-old sweetheart. Time passes; situations change. Now, neither seems willing to accept that the truth is beyond their ken and that there is more to each of their stories. A fake engagement seems like a bad idea, but no one is listening.

Seven years ago, the budding love between Niall Lindsey and young Brilliana Payne went down in flames when a duel of honor sent Niall fleeing to Spain and Bree refused to leave her ailing mother to her wastrel father's care. Now Niall is back as the new Earl of Margrave, with pardon in hand; Bree is a widow with a young son; and their mutual resentment--as well as their unacknowledged and unwanted emotions--still simmers between them. But any hope of ignoring each other is dashed when they are forced into a faux engagement to help track down a counterfeiter with links to Bree's father. Secrets, perceived betrayal, lack of trust, and family interference are only a few of the issues that come into play in this rewarding read.
