"Told with humor and heart, this is a story of right versus wrong" set in the secret world of sorority life at the University of Mississippi (Atlanta Journal-Constitution).
Cali Watkins possesses all the qualities sororities are looking for in a pledge. She's kind and intelligent, makes friends easily, even plans to someday run for governor. But her resume lacks a vital ingredient. Pedigree. Without family money Cali's chances of sorority membership are already thin, but she has an even bigger problem. If anyone discovers the dark family secrets she's hiding, she'll be dropped from Rush in an instant.
Lilith Whitmore is the well-heeled House Corp President of Alpha Delta Beta, one of the premiere sororities on campus. And she has a devious plan to ensure her own daughter receives an Alpha Delt bid—no matter what.
For twenty-five years, Miss Pearl has been housekeeper and a second mother to the Alpha Delt girls. When she's denied a well-deserved promotion, the injustice sets off a chain of events that will change Alpha Delta Beta—and maybe the entire Greek system—forever. Funny and poignant, Rush spins a heartfelt story that offers a rare inside look at a centuries-old tradition.

At the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), Miss Pearl has been the Alpha Delta Beta housekeeper for 25 years and is like a second mother and unofficial therapist to all 430 sorority sisters. The Alpha Delt House is gearing up for another year of rush and with Lilith Whitmore, a former sorority sister and the new house corp president at the helm, everyone is a little tense. Another alum and former Alpha Delt, Wilda Woodcock, is called on by Lilith to fill her open spot on the rush advisor board. Plus, Lilith's and Wilda's daughters, Annie Laurie and Ellie, will both be attending Ole Miss as freshmen, sharing a dorm room and rushing sororities together. Then there's Cali Watkins, also an incoming freshman, who's desperate to become a sorority sister but missing a potentially crucial requirement: pedigree. VERDICT Patton's (Whistlin' Dixie in a Nor'easter) glimpse into Southern sorority life is far more about relationships among women and their support for one another. With a rich story line full of heart, it expertly tackles current social issues. Recommended for Karen White and Mary Alice Monroe fans.--Melissa Keegan, Ela Area P.L., Lake Zurich, IL
