New York Times bestselling author James Swallow begins his espionage thriller series with Nomad featuring British desk jockey intelligence operative turned active agent.
Marc Dane is a MI6 field agent at home behind a computer screen, one step away from the action. But when a brutal attack on his team leaves Dane the only survivor—and with the shocking knowledge that there are traitors inside MI6—he's forced into the front line.
Matters spiral out of control when the evidence points toward Dane as the perpetrator of the attack. Accused of betraying his country, he must race against time to clear his name. With nowhere to turn to for help and no one left to trust, Marc is forced to rely on the elusive Rubicon group and their operative Lucy Keyes. Ex US Army, Lucy also knows what it's like to be an outsider, and she's got the skills that Dane needs.
A terrorist attack is coming, one bigger and more deadly than has ever been seen before. With the eyes of the security establishment elsewhere, only Keyes and Dane can stop the attack before it's too late.

Swallow has gathered some stock thriller ingredients into a hot pot and stirred, cooking up a fat actioner that will taste just right for readers who like to stick with what works. MI6 agent Marc Dane is going rogue after a betrayal. He's assisted by a female sniper working for a billionaire vigilante. The villains are terrorists with scary weapons of destruction involving the bodies of children. Swallow is a fine writer, and he educates as he goes, telling us how to create a mini-bomb with lithium batteries, water, and an aerosol can. But the novel suffers from action scenes that repeat themselves until they become unbelievable, and readers will find themselves agreeing with the thug who snaps that Dane "is too good to be true." Still, none of this matters all that much; fans will put the book down only long enough to run out for lithium batteries and aerosol.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2018, American Library Association.)
