It is often difficult for children, and adults, to articulate their emotions and to understand why they act the way they do. This colorful illustrated ebook encourages pre-schoolers to understand what is happening in their body when they feel happy or sad, and how strong feelings can shape their actions. Fun characters illustrate each emotion, from a little flame representing Anger to a sparkly star for Pride, and simple text is ideal for reading aloud.

Preschool-K Toddlers are known for their strong feelings, and these board books in the First Emotions series (5 titles) give parents, teachers, and caregivers helpful tools for teaching very young children to recognize and deal with those feelings. The books attempt to normalize not only the emotions themselves, but also common responses to them. With the exception of How Do I Feel?, which discusses how the brain receives signals to produce different feelings and reactions, each book defines one emotion, gives at least one simple example of a situation that might lead a child to feel that way, and explains how one might feel or express that emotion. The illustrations feature symbolic cartoon characters who embody each emotion: an angry fire, a happy sun, a sad rain cloud, etc. A light but useful introduction to feelings for the youngest children.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2020, American Library Association.)
