Many cookbooks have been written for gluten-free eaters and vegetarians, but Fenster (100 Best Gluten-Free Recipes) here targets both camps. She includes recipes for every meal from breakfast to dessert, including Southwestern Bean and Grain Casserole, Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Orange-Nut Sauce, and Tiramisu. The recipes are straightforward and easy to follow, and her tone throughout is welcoming to newer cooks, even as she offers innovative ideas for those more comfortable in the kitchen. Fenster introduces the health benefits of gluten-free and vegetarian diets and provides an excellent list of ingredients. Her useful chapter on baking features baguettes, scones, and muffins and helpful hints for learning to bake without wheat. VERDICT As gluten-free and vegetarian diets become more common, this book will have an increasingly large audience. It will likely be welcomed by many looking to adopt healthier diets, even if they are not strictly gluten free or vegetarian.--Laura Krier, California Digital Lib., Oakland
