Some fairytales come with a plot twist...

Devon Jacobs finally has everything she's been working toward—a busy, exciting life in LA, a seat at the writer's table on the television show Here To Stay, and a promising relationship with the sitcom's lead actor, Ryan Roberts. But in Hollywood, all that glitters isn't gold. News that her boss doesn't approve of workplace romances has Devon lying to keep her relationship under wraps while also struggling to have her voice heard in a room full of more experienced writers. And when rumors fly that the show may be canceled, the mounting pressure leads Devon and Ryan to reluctantly take a break.

Amid all the uncertainty, a family emergency sends Devon home to Indiana where she unexpectedly reconnects with her old crush, Jason, who insists he's a changed man. Devon faces a life-altering choice—fight for her dream that now seems further out of reach or move home to the safety of the familiar.

A television writer’s white lie jeopardizes her future both professionally and romantically in Wheatley’s flimsy second Fearless Fairytale romance (after She Gets What She Wants). When Devon Jacobs’s boss, Lena, unexpectedly asks her if she’s dating Ryan Roberts, one of the stars of their sit-com, Here to Stay, she panics and denies the rumors—even though they’re true. Devon and Ryan’s relationship isn’t against any company policy, but Devon knows Lena looks down on members of the cast and crew fraternizing because she fears they’ll have trouble keeping personal drama off set. Ryan disapproves of Devon’s dishonesty, and he along with other co-workers urge her to come clean. It’s a thin premise, and the plot largely consists of Devon’s dithering procrastination—which includes reconsidering her time with an old flame—followed by constant interruptions once she finally decides to fess up. Lena is painted as a fair, understanding boss, making Devon’s fear seem largely unfounded. Meanwhile, Devon and Ryan’s chemistry doesn’t quite come through, causing all the drama to feel even less earned. Readers will hope for more substance in the next installment.
