In the cold, snowy mountains, Hannah Richards, a paramedic and search-and-rescue volunteer, responds to a call for help at the scene of an accident, although it soon becomes clear that this wasn't an accident after all. There's an escaped convict on the loose, and unfortunately, Hannah fits the preferred victim profile of the killer. Since it's a small town, her path keeps crossing with Jake Gwynn, the new deputy, as they try to find the murderer, who turns out to have special forces training in cold weather survival. VERDICT First in a new series, this slow-burn romance from Myers (Alpha Tracker) mostly falls flat, with little chemistry between Hannah and Jake.--Mary Frances Cely
