Getting selected as Texas's Sexiest Bachelor is not a welcome title for Colter Ward and so he makes a deal with his old friend Adeline Harlow to pretend they are a couple. Kennedy spends plenty of time justifying the relationship as well as illustrating a strong connection between them, and she creates realistic barriers rooted in character actions. Despite dealing with some heavy pain in their pasts, Kennedy maintains a lightness of tone in the book and her clear writing makes this a fast read even as the book occasionally bogs down in details. VERDICT Readers will enjoy this first trip to Devil's Bluffs and look forward to returning, as Kennedy (See Me) has also set up intriguing characters for future installments and Kennedy's clear writing makes this a fast read even as the book occasionally bogs down in details, but readers looking for more than a superficial rancher book will enjoy the peek behind the scenes of running a ranch.--Brigid Black
