A series of ominous events keep drawing them together, however, even as they each try to keep their distance from the other. As their pasts begin to catch up to them, both start to worry that they ultimately won't be able to make it through with their lives--or their hearts--intact. VERDICT This is the first in a new miniseries from Bokal (Colton's Rogue Investigation). The villains are a bit one-dimensional, but the main characters are likable and a desire to find out what happens next will keep readers turning pages all the way through to the epilogue, and chances are they'll be keeping an eye out for the next series book as well.--Rebecca Moe
