Sam Reeves is a kindhearted psychologist who treats court-ordered clients. After one of his patients—a pathological liar—starts revealing plausible new details from a long-unsolved serial murder case, he’s compelled to report anonymously to the SDPD tip line, though his attempts to respect patient confidentiality land him facedown and cuffed by the aggressive (and cute) Detective McKittrick.
San Diego homicide detective Kit McKittrick loves the water. She lives on a boat, and when she’s not solving crimes with the SDPD, she’s assisting her foster sister with her charter fishing business or playing with her poodle. But there’s nothing that intrigues Kit more than a cold case, so when an anonymous caller leads her on the path of a wanted killer, she’s determined to end the decade-long manhunt.
Sam is soon released but goes home with both a newfound distaste for the SDPD and a resolve—not unlike Kit’s—to uncover the truth. Kit and Sam repeatedly butt heads in their separate investigations but are forced to work together to find one of the deadliest serial killers the city has faced in years.

Best-selling Rose (Quarter to Midnight) brings readers an unforgettable series debut--an expertly constructed, twisty thriller/police procedural, starring Kit McKittrick, a dedicated cop, and Sam Reeves, a heart of gold psychologist. Sam has a dilemma when one of his patients, a mythomaniac, starts revealing information about a possible connection to a series of unsolved murders. Wanting to do the right thing but needing to be careful because he could lose his license, he picks a devoted homicide cop to make an anonymous report to. After identifying the tipster as Sam, Kit and her partner show up to question him and have no choice but to arrest him when he resists. However, Kit and Sam are soon working together to prevent a heinous killer from striking again. Rose gives her audience many impressive costars and a diabolical villain, leaving even the savviest of readers on pins and needles throughout the novel and absolutely shocked at the ending. VERDICT Fans of strong female protagonists, titillating crime dramas, and the novels of Lisa Gardner, Lisa Jackson, and Rose herself will find this unputdownable.--Debbie Haupt

Bestseller Rose (Quarter to Midnight) thrills in the first installment of her San Diego Case Files series. After Katherine Matthews’s foster sister, Wren, is discovered murdered in a dumpster, 15-year-old Katherine is determined to catch her killer. Sixteen years later, Katherine has become Kit McKittrick, a San Diego homicide detective partnered with Baz Constantine, the original detective on the still unsolved murder—and they finally get a break in the case. Psychologist Sam Reeves treats court-ordered patients, and one of his creepier clients, Colton Driscoll, seems to know more than he should about several cold-case murders of blonde teenage girls. Not wanting the blood of innocents on his hands, Sam phones in a tip to Kit—and immediately gets caught up in a whirlwind of investigation, death, and unexpected romance with Kit. Rose strews her twisty, believable plot with red herrings on the way to a shocking final twist. The result is an un-put-downable romantic thriller.
