      Jessica "Jessie" Bennington has a comfortable life training and rescuing dogs. Situated on her grandparents' property, her dogs freely roam the six acres. Shadow, a German shepherd mix, is her personal PTSD/emotional support dog. Jessie has had a rough past, and she finds that she and Deputy Garrett Caldwell have a lot in common. Garrett deals with his own PTSD from his army experiences, and the two definitely have a connection. When trouble shows up at the ranch, Jessie and Garrett quickly put their flirtatious banter to rest and concentrate on staying alive. VERDICT With lots of characters (both human and K-9) in the book, Miller (Sharp Evidence) goes to great lengths to give them each the story they deserve.--Shondra Brown
